Practice catches
Your first three Deep Focus catches are practice. Until the third catch, the only way to lose an apparition is to stop the timer on purpose, and a practice report after each one explains how grace periods work.
- Available on iPhone and Android
The first three apparitions you catch with Deep Focus are practice catches. During practice, leaving the app does not cost you the apparition: the only way to lose one is to stop the timer on purpose. After each catch a practice report tells you how many practice catches you have made, out of three. After your third catch, the real rules apply, and staying away longer than your grace period allows loses the apparition you were catching.
What is a practice catch?
A practice catch is any of your first three caught apparitions in Deep Focus. The session runs like every other one: you wait through the digital hourglass and the apparition is revealed at the end. What differs is the safety net while you learn. Stopping the timer yourself still ends the session and loses that apparition, so practice is a gentler start, not a free pass.
The ghost behind a lost apparition is untouched either way. It stays in In Progress with the same chapter count, ready for another try.
What does the practice report show?
After each practice catch, a report headed Perfectly focused appears with your guide’s portrait and a line reading Practice catch 1 of 3, then 2 of 3, then 3 of 3. It confirms you stayed with your apparition the whole session and gives short notes on grace periods: you get up to three short exits per session, and you can unlock an extended 5 minute grace period with coins. Tap Continue to move on.
What changes after the third catch?
Practice ends and grace periods count for real. The third report adds a highlighted note saying you have caught 3 apparitions, practice is over, and from your next Deep Focus timer leaving the app for too long means losing your apparition for real. A lost apparition never removes its ghost from In Progress, but that apparition does get away.
On iPhone and Android the free grace is one minute at a time, three times per session. Stakes and grace periods covers the exits badge, what happens when you run out, and the 5 minute grace.
When can I stake coins?
Coin stakes are a separate choice that unlocks after you have caught 5 apparitions, so they are not part of practice. Until then the Stakes switch in the focus settings sheet is greyed out, and tapping it shows your guide with a note saying how many apparitions unlock staking. Staking is always opt-in: nothing leaves your balance unless you turn it on.
